Meg Ryan
Meg Ryan, blonde-haired and blue-eyed
she was born Margaret Mary Emily Hyra in Fairfield Connecticut to Susan
(Duggan), a former actress and English teacher and Harry Hyra, a maths teacher.
Her ancestry includes Ruthenian, Polish and Irish, as well as German.
("Hyra") is her Ruthenian surname, and "Ryan", is her
maternal grandmother's maiden. Meg was graduated in June 1979 Bethel high
school, Bethel. Meg moved to New York and majored as a journalist at New York
University. Meg Ryan is her new name, entered acting in order to earn money as
she finished her education. 1981 was her first big screen appearance. She
played Candice Bergen's daughter in the film by George Cukor Rich and Famous
(1981). She auditioned and was cast as Betsy in the day time soap As the World
Turns (1956). The show starred her from 1982 to 1984. Meg was also a part of
the TV show One of the Boys (1982), which was quickly cancelled. In 1984, she
moved to Hollywood and was offered a role in the western TV series Wildside
(1985). Meg's part in the blockbuster movie Top Gun (1986) led to her being
part of Steven Spielberg's Innerspace (1987) where she co-starred with Dennis
Quaid. In D.O.A.'s remake, she co-starred with Dennis Quaid. (1988) and the
couple tied the knot on Saint Valentine's Day in 1991. In 1989, Meg appeared in
When Harry Met Sally... (1989) and the scene at the restaurant was a hit. Meg
was nominated both for the Golden Globe as well as the BAFTA. In 1990, she
co-starred with Tom Hanks in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and this time she
played three roles as DeDe/Angelica/Patricia. She appeared again with Tom in
the hugely successful Sleepless in Seattle (1993) in which she was nominated
for the Golden Globe. Meg decided to go against the grain in 1994 when she
portrayed the role as Meg's alcohol-dependent wife and motherin "When a
Man Loves a Woman" (1994). After that, she went back to "cute"
with both I.Q. (1994) as well as French Kiss (1996). In 1994, Meg was awarded
the Harvard Hasty Pudding Award for being "Woman of the Year" and was
named as one of "The 50 most beautiful people in the world 1994" by
People Magazine.
